Winter Solstice

Turning to the North

by Scott Silverston

On the Medicine Wheel, the North is the direction of wisdom.  It is a place of rest and rejuvenation.  A place of Spiritual Growth, where stillness on the outside conceals the layers of movement happening on the inside.  The North is a time for reflection and the sharing of accumulated knowledge.  It represents a time of incubation.  Like compost transforming into soil, or seeds lying dormant under the winter snow, waiting for the spring to regenerate, the North represents a time of internal processing where knowledge and experience are purified into true wisdom.

As we transition through the gateway of the Winter Solstice, I encourage you to find a quiet phase for introspection and allow your experiences of this past turning of the wheel to incubate, so that you can open the next cycle of life with clearer intention for the seeds you will plant and the harvest that you wish to reap.
