Depart Retreat Center with our local guide Julian. Our First Stop is the Traditional Weaving Village of Chinchero where we will see a demonstration of traditional Andean dying and weaving methods and have the opportunity to purchase authentic hand woven Alpaca and Llama Wool textiles. We will then proceed to the Misminay Community for a traditional Pachamanca lunch. One hundred twenty families live in the community preserving their ancestral traditions and customs.
After lunch we will proceed to the archaeological site of Moray which is known for it circular terraces that were used for agricultural experimentation in ancient times. We will then visit the Salt Mines of Maras which are one of the largest salt extraction centers in Peru and currently under consideration as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Salt has been harvested at Maras for at least 2000 years. We wrap up our first day of travel with a short drive to Ollantaytambo where we will check into our comfortable hotel and join together for a group meal.
Optional Hike to Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate (see below for details).
Guests who choose not to join the hike through the Sun Gate to Machu Picchu hike will remain in Ollantaytambo for the morning with Penelope and one of Julian’s guide team to relax and explore the town before departing on an early afternoon train to Aquas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.
The entire group will reconvene for dinner in Aquas Calientes, sharing our experiences for the day.
Guests who join the optional Machu Picchu hike through the Sun Gate will leave on an early morning train from Ollantaytambo to the trailhead (elevation 2,100m/6,927ft). After a 90-minute train ride, our hike begins with a three-hour uphill walk (550m/1820ft elevation gain) to the archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna (2,650m/8,747ft).
After exploring the ruins and enjoying spectacular views of Urubamba Canyon, we meet the Inca Trail and walk to the Sun Gate (2,730m/9,007ft) with iconic views of Machu Picchu. This portion of the trail takes about 2 hours to complete and includes sections with stairs. We complete our walk with a gently 1 hour down hill to Machu Picchu (2,430m/7,972ft).
Our full group will travel together by bus to Machu Picchu, leaving in the mid morning to explore one of the most incredible and beautiful places on Earth. After lunch we will board an afternoon train to Ollantaytambo, return to our hotel from the previous night and enjoy a delicious dinner.

Weather in May in the Sacred Valley is sunny and pleasant.
Expect clear skies, bright sun, and cool nights with high temperatures of 74 F (24 C) and lows of 43 F (6 C)
Early May is considered the best time of year to visit because rain is minimal but the landscape is still lush and green unlike the drier months of June-September.
The Sacred Valley of Peru is in the Andes Mountains
You will most likely be visiting a place that has a much higher elevation than where you live.
Willka T’ika and the Town of Urubamba are at an elevation of 9,400 ft (2,865 m) above sea level.
Cusco (where the airport is) is at an elevation of 11,150 ft (3,400 m)
Machu Picchu is at 7,972 ft (2,430 m)
The lowest point we will visit during our two weeks in the Sacred Valley is Aquas Calientes 6,700 ft (2040 m)
Arriving a day or two early to acclimatize and recover from jet lag can be helpful.
Our retreat includes complimentary pick up and drop off at Cusco Airport. Please inform Scott of your flight details once you have them finalized.
If you decide to arrive early to acclimatize to the elevation, we will be happy to arrange pick up at your local Cusco area hotel to transport you to Willka T’ika.
The best way to protect yourself from any unforeseen circumstance is to purchase trip insurance. We therefore STRONGLY recommend that each participant purchase individual travel insurance for their trip.
Travel insurance can protect against:

Declining to purchase travel insurance means that the cost of any change or program cancellation becomes the full responsibility of the participant.
Our Retreat will be held in the Sacred Valley, Cusco Region in Peru. We will be visiting sites at elevations ranging from 7,000-13,000’ above sea level. Some activities are strenuous and will require hiking over uneven terrain and navigating significant elevation change on foot. It is your responsibility to be mindful of your own fitness to participate in these activities.

The Peru Shamanism Retreat will visit places where evacuation to modern medical facilities is impractical and may take days. If you choose to join the retreat, you may be exposed to dangerous conditions, whether they are natural or man-made, or whether they arise from encounters with slippery mud, slippery rocks, rising stream waters, wild animals, insects or dangerous plants. Physical demands on the participant may include carrying a small backpack over uneven terrain such as, rocks, boulders, fallen logs, or slippery surfaces as well as ascending and descending steep mountain slopes at high elevation.
The activities you will participate in at the Peru Retreat have risks, including certain risks which are inherent. Inherent risks are those which cannot be eliminated without destroying the unique character of the activities. The same elements that contribute to the unique character of these activities can cause loss or damage to equipment, accidental injury, illness, or, in extreme cases, permanent trauma, disability or death. As these conditions can cause injury or sickness, Shamanic Spirit Medicine, Scott Silverston and Liquid_S DreamMakers LLC will allow you to participate in the Peru Retreat and associate activities if and only if you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Shamanic Spirit Medicine, Scott Silverston, Penelope Law and Liquid_S DreamMakers LLC it’s members, guides, employees, sub-contractors, land owners and any other person or entity involved with you’re the Peru Shamanism Retreat.
Shamanic Spirit Medicine, Scott Silverston and Liquid_S DreamMakers LLC does not want to frighten its participants nor reduce their enthusiasm, but considers it important for them and their families to know in advance what to expect, and to be informed of the activities’ inherent risks.
The following describes some, but not all, of those risks:
We will be visiting many outdoor sites at high elevation where participants are subject to numerous environmental and other risks.
Travel is by vehicle on foot and by other means, over improved and unimproved roads, rugged trails, high mountain passes, steep slopes, slippery rocks. Travel risks include collision, falling, drowning, slipping, tripping or falling on rugged, slippery or boulder-strewn trails and stream beds, being struck by falling tree parts or rocks, and other risks usually associated with such travel, including but not limited to environmental risks.
Environmental risks and hazards include changing trail conditions, animals, insects, falling and rolling rock; lightning, avalanches, flash floods, falling timber and forces of nature, including weather which may change to extreme conditions and equipment malfunction or failure. These dangers can result in sprains, strains, torn ligaments, torn muscles, broken bones, eye and ear damage, cuts, wounds, scrapes, abrasions, contusions, head injuries, neck injuries, rib injuries, spine injuries, arm injuries, wrist and hand injuries, leg injuries, ankle and foot injuries, injuries to other parts of the body, drowning, hypothermia, exhaustion, sunburn, sunstroke, dehydration, poisoning, staph infection, leptospirosis, other types of infection, oxygen shortage, animal or insect stings and bites, shock, paralysis, death, and/or other mild or serious conditions.
Decisions are made by the guides and participants based on a variety of perceptions and evaluations which by their nature are imprecise and subject to errors in judgment. Misjudgments may pertain to, among other things, a participant’s capabilities, environment, terrain, water and weather conditions, natural hazards, routes and medical conditions.
The Peru Retreat may require a degree of skill and knowledge not required in other activities, and participants have responsibilities for managing the risks to which they and others are exposed. You agree to fully inform Shamanic Spirit Medicine, Scott Silverston and Liquid_S DreamMakers LLC and its members, guides, employees and contractors of your ability to participate in the hike and of any physical or medical conditions that might impair your hiking skills such as vision or depth of field perception or limited movement in part of your body.
