David Craig is a visionary shamanic artist, master drum maker, and ceremonial dancer of the Ojibwe-Chippewa Nation. There are many different styles and traditions of drum-making, and each continent carries its own process — David works within the lineage of his people.
David incorporates both the physical and the spiritual aspects of drum-making into his craftsmanship — including prayers to all the elements that make up your drum: the tree that gave the wood, the animal that gave its skin, and the spirits that guide the work.
As part of the process, David speaks with you personally to understand your vision of the Dreamtime and your spirit helpers. He only begins to paint your drum once he too has visioned your power animals in the spirit world — so that what is painted is true to what already belongs to you.
The very first drum came into the world through a woman's vision of how to wrap a hide around a hollow log and how to prepare it. She brought the teaching back to her people.
